Product safety: The CE marking

The CE marking is a statement made by the manufacturer that a product complies with the health, safety, performance and environmental requirements of the current European product legislation.

The marking must be visibly, legibly and indelibly affixed to the product. And if this is not possible, it must be affixed to the packaging or to attached documents.

At the present time, the CE marking is only mandatory for certain product categories such as toys, construction products, lifts, certain electrical equipment and personal protective equipment, for example.

See the complete list of product categories for which the CE marking is mandatory.

The CE marking cannot be affixed to product categories that are not included in that list.
